Our tribute to Mike Dunne

It is with great sadness that we share the very sad news that Mike Dunne has passed away after a short battle with Cancer.

Mike has been a integral part of the Wythenshawe community Run team from the very start and a huge part of why we were able to continue after Great Run Local folded.

Mike got us access to the park, the track, Portakabin's, Toilets and Changing rooms, he set the course up every week and he was always the first person at the track on a Sunday morning and the last person to leave.

It is no exaggeration to say that had Mike not been able to use his contacts at Wythenshawe park and beyond the run would never have got off the ground.

Mike himself was a very good runner and starting in the early 1960's he ran for over 40 years for Sale Harriers competitively and was an accomplished runner over every distance on roads and cross-country from 5k to the Marathon with very impressive times that included a 2:28.00 Marathon, in later life he loved watching people find a love for running that he had for his whole life and was always there encouraging other runners with little bits of advice and tips.

He continued to run at Wythenshawe Community Run and recorded amazing times for a man in his 70's

Sale Harriers awarded him its highest honour of Life Membership in 2022.

Mike was a good friend to all of the Community run team and a true gentlemen who was so full of joy that he will be very sadly missed by us all.
