Description

Wythenshawe Community Run have been hosting a completely free 2k or 5k at Wythenshawe Park for the last two years.

On the 2nd June 2024 we are hosting our first ever Wythenshawe Community Run 10k.

This is a professionally chip timed multi terrain 10k race in honour of our extraordinary brave and special friend Mike Dunne

Mike loved running, helping out at runs, organising runs and he loved helping others! He enjoyed all this because of the friendship he found with his fellow runners, his competitive nature led him to record some amazing times across all distances but he was always supportive to other runners and he helped many people of all ages who were new to running with his advice and encouragement.

Mike was sadly diagnosed with cancer in late 2022 and passed away in May 2023. On the 4th June 2023 we had our usual free 5k as a memorial run for Mike.

This year we decided to do our first ever 10k race and we want to do it in memory of Mike Dunne but also to raise funds for the two charities that supported Mike and his family during his illness, 'St Ann's Hospice' and 'Greater Manchester Asbestos Victims Support Group' as well as keeping our Wythenshawe Community Run free to everyone as Mike and the rest of the team have always intended.

We have limited this first race to 300 places but we would really love to sell out to give the charities the maximum amount of money they need and honour Mike's Memory so please don't delay or you may miss out!

The course

The course has a running track start and finish and is mostly on the paths and tracks of Wythenshawe Park with a brief section on the cycle path.. The paths are wide and solid underfoot but is no concrete so very good for the knees! This is basically a cross country run without any mud!The course gets around most of Wythenshawe Park and is mostly a flat, fast course.

Each finisher will receive a specially designed bespoke medal!

Many thanks to our sponsors
